Paros & Santorini (the Cyclades) as you’ve never seen them before.
Unlike in Canada, where mountain biking is strictly regulated and rarely permitted on public roads, in Greece —and particularly on the islands — ATV is part of everyday life. Used by locals and visitors alike, mountain bikes roam freely through the streets, connecting beaches, villages, and scenic viewpoints.
There are two ways to visit the Greek islands: follow the crowds or blaze your own trail. On a quad, Paros and Santorini become a vast playground where every detour holds a surprise.
Over two days, we kept it simple: one island per day, total freedom, no schedule.
Day 1 – Paros: The Perfect Playground

Paros, Between Ancient Marble and Island Life
Long before it became a vacation destination, Paros was a strategic island in ancient times. It is particularly renowned for its exceptionally pure white marble, used to sculpt some of the greatest Greek works of art, including the famous Venus de Milo.
Paros is the ideal island for ATV riding. Less touristy than its neighbor Santorini, yet just as rich in scenery, it offers what enthusiasts are looking for: space, backroads, and a true sense of adventure.

Starting Point – Parikia

Once you leave the port, it takes just a few minutes to escape the hustle and bustle. The scenery changes quickly: winding roads, arid hills, and open views of the sea.
Here, the best approach is to forget Google Maps and follow your instincts.
1st Stop – Lefkes

Perched in the heart of the island, Lefkes is a must-see.
- A village straight out of a postcard
- Narrow streets impossible to navigate except on foot
- A rare silence in the Cyclades
Park your quad at the entrance… and slow down.
2nd Stop – Naoussa

A change of scenery. Heading north on one of the island’s most beautiful roads. Naoussa offers:
- A lively fishing port
- Waterfront terraces
- A more festive vibe
Perfect for a well-deserved lunch break.
3rd Stop – Kolymbithres Beach

A unique setting in the Cyclades.
- Naturally sculpted rocks
- Small, sheltered coves
- Crystal-clear water
Easily accessible by quad, it’s the ideal spot to break up the day.
The Real Pleasure: Getting Lost
Between each stop, it’s the side roads that make all the difference. Secluded chapels, impromptu viewpoints, deserted roads… Paros is best experienced between destinations, not just at the stops.
What We Loved
- Total freedom of movement
- Perfect roads for ATV riding
- Fewer tourists, more authenticity
What We Liked Less
- Signage is sometimes limited
- Little shade in the height of summer
Day 2 – Santorini: Spectacular, But Strategic

Santorini, Born of Fire. Santorini, or Thera, is one of the most fascinating islands in the Mediterranean. Its current shape is the result of a major volcanic eruption that occurred about 3,600 years ago, one of the most powerful in human history.

This explosion created the famous caldera, a vast bay surrounded by steep cliffs, now an iconic feature of the island. Some historians even link this event to the legend of Atlantis.
Over time, Santorini became a key hub for maritime trade, then a world-renowned destination for its unique landscapes and white architecture clinging to the cliffs.
A spectacular island, but one that demands to be explored wisely. Santorini impresses from the very first few kilometers but requires a different approach. Here, the challenge is simple: enjoy the scenery without being overwhelmed by the crowds.
Departure Point – Kamari / Perissa

Ideal starting point.
- Quick access to main roads
- Less congested than Fira
- Easy ATV rental
1st Must-See: Pyrgos

The best starting point to understand the island.
- 360° view
- Authentic village
- Much calmer atmosphere
- One of Santorini’s best-kept secrets
2nd Must-See: Red Beach (Akrotiri)

Heading southwest, with roads offering constant panoramic views.
- Impressive red cliffs
- Striking contrast with the sea
- A unique spot in the Cyclades
3rd must-see #3 – Akrotiri Lighthouse
Less well-known, but spectacular.
- Unobstructed view of the caldera
- Few tourists
- Perfect for a photo stop
4th must-see #4 – Firostefani / Imerovigli

The smart alternative to Oia.
- Iconic blue domes
- Fewer crowds
- Easier access by ATV
- Same view, less chaos
Sunset: the strategic choice.
When the sun starts to dip, you have two options:
- Oia: Iconic… but crowded.
- Akrotiri or secluded roads: A much more immersive, peaceful experience.
What We Loved
- Some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world
- Quick access to various points of interest
- Freedom to avoid overcrowded areas
What We Liked Less
- Heavy traffic in some areas
- Parking can be tricky at times
- Fewer long rides than in Paros, more stops and starts
Verdict: Two Islands, Two Philosophies
- Paros → for riding, exploring, breathing
- Santorini → for seeing, stopping, contemplating
Quad becomes more than just a means of transportation:
it’s what completely transforms the experience.
Practical Info
- Rental: €30–60/day
- Riding: Narrow roads, sometimes windy
- License: Driver’s license generally accepted
- Gas: Plan ahead on Santorini—expect around $4 per liter!

Conclusion
Exploring the Cyclades by ATV means choosing freedom. It means stepping outside the box, improvising, and stopping where others pass by without noticing.
After two days like these, one thing is clear: coming back is a given!
