CFMOTO is a very active manufacturer of off-road vehicles. In fact, new models follow one another at a rate that is one of the most sustained in the industry. With each new generation of models, perceived and actual quality approaches that of the market leaders. For 2025, the brand has decided to revisit its range of large-displacement CFORCE ATVs, incorporating major improvements and new features. We had the opportunity to test in winter conditions the Overlander version of the CFMOTO CFORCE 1000, which is fully equipped to satisfy the needs of the most demanding quad riders.
Design and presentation
At first glance, you immediately recognize the family resemblance with other CFMOTO ATVs. However, the new generation of CFORCE 1000s takes attention to detail and quality of design even further. Whether we’re talking about the quality of the materials or the design of the controls, refinement is the order of the day. Take, for example, the visual signature lighting, which consists of a line of LEDs running across the front grille and repeated at the rear. This element adds a distinctive touch to the vehicle.
The manufacturer’s attention also focused on the vehicle’s functional aspect. For example, the design of the new closed side panels isolates the driver from engine heat. This also helps reduce undesirable noise.
In the driver’s seat, the 7” TFT color display shows all the vehicle’s operating parameters. It’s very clear, and a model of its kind for a quad. Commodo controls are more like motorcycle controls than quad commands. The buttons are small to operate with gloves, but are no problem to use. There’s also a control for navigating the screen menu to manage the quad’s various electronic modes.
The level of on-board equipment on the Overlander version is plethoric. In addition to the 3500-lb winch and front and rear bumpers, you get front and rear rack extensions, a windshield with integrated hand guards, a 110-liter watertight rear trunk, an LED auxiliary headlight with selectable yellow or white illumination, 14-inch aluminum wheels with beadlocks and 27-inch tires, and even a heated seat! What’s more, you’ll get the usual CFMOTO safety equipment, including turn signals, horn, mirrors, USB and 12V ports, and trailer connector.
Revised powertrain and improvements
This new generation features the same overhauled 963 cm³ V-twin engine. With 84 hp and 62 lb*ft of torque, it’s one of the class leaders. However, the transmission is now designed and built directly by CFMOTO. In the past, transmissions were supplied by CVTech-IBC. Now, the manufacturer intends to produce the vast majority of these components itself. The transmission clutch works smoothly and performance is optimal. As for the long-term reliability of the transmission, only time will tell.
Lots of on-board electronic management systems
CFMOTO has included no less than three distinct electronic management systems on the CFORCE 1000. Firstly, the driver can choose between three driving modes (Work, Normal and Sport). These modes modulate throttle response and fuel system mapping. In other words, they adjust the engine’s performance to avoid over-accelerating, particularly when the vehicle is to be used at low speeds, for example for work tasks.
In addition, CFORCE models now feature Dynamic Downhill Assist. This system is particularly effective when maneuvering at very low speeds on steep inclines. In fact, the vehicle takes on the task of managing the descent autonomously, ensuring smooth, jolt-free progress. No need to keep the belt engaged to take advantage of engine braking: everything is now automated.
Finally, the electronic power steering can now be adjusted to four positions. This allows you to choose maximum assistance for slow maneuvers or, on the contrary, lighter assistance for sporty driving to maintain optimum precision. A considerable asset for this range of large-displacement ATVs.
Suspensions
The latest generation CFMOTO CFORCE 1000 2025 features no new suspension geometry, retaining the proven architecture of the previous version. At the front, double-wishbone suspension remains, while a swingarm at the rear ensures stability. These suspensions offer 9 inches of travel at both front and rear, as well as 11 inches of ground clearance. While these figures are interesting, the competition often offers greater travel, which leaves us a little disappointed.
On the other hand, the vehicle is fitted as standard with gas-charged shock absorbers equipped with external auxiliary reservoirs, which compensate somewhat for the lack of travel. This improves suspension performance by controlling rebound in extension and compression. This makes it possible to adapt the ATV more effectively to different types of terrain or to the demands of the task in hand.
Riding impressions
When we test-drive the CFMOTO CFORCE 1000 2025, we notice that the ergonomics are carefully designed, offering a natural posture. A large, carefully padded and even heated seat ensures a high level of comfort. The handlebars are ideally adjusted for a lively yet relaxed ride. Controls and handles are intuitively laid out for easy access.
From the very first kilometers, it’s clear that the new gearbox and different riding modes transmit power efficiently. The power available is clearly perceptible, gradually increasing to reach its peak at the end of the rev range. Indeed, acceleration is remarkable on the CFORCE 1000.
During our tests on different types of trail surfaces, I was impressed by the comfort offered by the suspension. We noticed that the shock absorbers effectively manage impacts and provide ideal riding comfort. Whether on stony or muddy terrain, this reduces fatigue during long rides.
In certain specific circumstances where I pushed the vehicle harder, I could have expected more vibrations, but body movements are well controlled by the suspension. As for handling, it has been considerably improved over the previous version. It is precise and, above all, adaptable thanks to the adjustable power steering. This enhances comfort while offering optimal control in general. However, on this test vehicle, we did notice some steering when the wheels were on an icy surface. In other words, the handlebars had to be pulled back to one side. Nevertheless, when driving fast around tight corners, it was easy to place the vehicle where you wanted it.
Versatility and a sharp Overland version
CFMOTO’s CFORCE 1000 2025s are just as suitable for work as they are for touring. You could even indulge in a bit of sporty riding. Nevertheless, these ATVs remain versatile and utilitarian vehicles. With sturdy models pushing the weight beyond 1000 lbs, their solidity is undeniable. Nevertheless, they offer a dynamic ride while promoting excellence from a working perspective. The 1746 lb (800 kg) towing capacity proves it, and CFORCEs are suitable for transporting heavy loads.
The Overland version offered by CFMOTO is very well designed to meet the needs of quad riders who use the vehicles for long rides. Owners will have a fully equipped vehicle, ready to take on the vast majority of challenges on and off the trail.
