Intro
New to Canada this year, the CFMOTO 800NK 2024 makes its debut. Completing the “naked bike” range, it is the queen of NKs in terms of performance. With its successful design and dynamic handling, it offers a lot for its price. Let’s take a look at it in detail.
Design and finish
As soon as we set eyes on the CFMOTO 800NK 2024, we notice a modern aesthetic with a sporty touch. With its dynamic, flowing lines, its mechanical components are highlighted by the stripped-down appearance. Its LED headlights and integrated taillights are not only functional, but also offer a distinctive visual signature.
The 800NK’s compact silhouette is particularly well suited to urban driving. Small between the legs, it offers maneuverability and ease of maneuvering in heavier traffic. The digital instrument panel is prominently displayed. Compact, it provides all essential information to the rider in a clear and accessible manner.
Mechanics
The heart of the CFMOTO 800NK 2024 is a 799 cm3 twin-cylinder engine. This is the same engine found in the CFMOTO IBEX800. It’s also derived from the KTM 790 models. This introduces a certain guarantee of performance and reliability too.
Power climbs to no less than 99hp at 9500rpm, and torque is 60lb*ft. Quite a performance for a stripped-down bike weighing just 186 kg unladen.
As an added bonus, there are riding modes (Rain, Sport and Street). These allow you to modify the engine’s throttle response and the opening of the intake butterflies. What’s more, the ABS and traction control are also modified. In a way, the bike is transformed, making it safer when riding on wet surfaces. Even the general display changes according to mode. The attention to detail is there, and it shows.
KYB adjustable suspension
CFMOTO uses KYB shock absorbers to ensure good roadholding. At the front, the inverted fork is fully adjustable. It is calibrated to be quite firm. This favors sporty handling and precise cornering. The same applies to the rear, with the monoshock on the swingarm. So it’s excellent for rhythmic riding on impeccable roads. In other situations, however, the going gets tougher. You can feel it bouncing around on uneven roads. You’ll need to take the time to adjust it properly. It’s a good thing, then, that you can adjust it differently from the very firm (if not too firm) factory setting.
Brakes and wheels
To slow down the 800NK, the manufacturer has opted for a BOSCH ABS. It’s perfectly calibrated without being too intrusive. Braking power is provided by Brembo’s sister company, J. Juan brake components. The result: powerful, well-balanced brakes for a safe driving experience.
The 17” alloy rims fitted with Maxxis tires provide good grip on asphalt without being too soft and melting like those on a sportbike. So, the tires were very well chosen for this bike’s vocation.
Riding impressions
The CFMOTO 800NK 2024 offers an exciting riding experience. From the very first kilometers, you immediately feel its power and driving precision. The engine delivers good acceleration and strong acceleration. Whether you’re overtaking on the freeway, weaving your way through urban traffic or threading curves… the engine puts a smile on your face every time you turn the throttle. As an added bonus, the sound of the exhaust makes us vibrate intensely with its present symphony.
First-rate handling is also where this bike shines. It’s designed to be nimble and easy to maneuver. Its well-balanced weight and compact ergonomics enable quick, precise changes of direction. These features make it particularly well-suited to urban riding or back roads. Tight curves are negotiated with ease, giving the rider a feeling of control and stability.
The minimalist effect is clearly felt on the handlebars. There’s no fairing to obstruct vision, and this makes for a very good feel. You feel the full force of the wind, and the sense of speed is increased tenfold. On the move, the full-colour digital instrument panel displays all essential information at a glance. This includes speed, engine rpm and even smartphone connectivity. What’s more, the well-designed CFMOTO Ride app makes for a most interesting ride management experience when combined with motorcycle riding.
Strengths
- The bike’s mechanics are powerful and responsive. You’ll notice that it likes to play at high revs. The exhaust note is really lively.
- The styling is successful and dynamic. You could say (at last) that it has a distinctive CFMOTO look.
- It’s an excellent urban motorcycle that combines performance and handling… all at a retail price of $10,000. Attractive!
Areas for improvement
- The passenger seat keeps the vehicle’s lines fluid. It’s nice, but not comfortable given its material, slippery finish and lack of padding. Another seat should be provided if two people are to ride often.
- There’s a lot of vibration from the engine at certain speeds. It’s clear that work has been done in this area, but we’d like to feel even less.
- The colors offered for 2024 are fairly sober. Personally, I think it lacks a bit of punch… The choice is white or black. But that’s a rather subjective point.
Conclusion
The CFMOTO 800NK 2024 makes a striking entrance with its beautiful “face”. Performance at the level of this medium-displacement class, intoxicating sound and precise handling. Will it be able to carve out a place for itself in this hyper-competitive market niche?
