Intro

CFMOTO’s range of NK motorcycles is highly dynamic, with constant changes over the years. The CFMOTO 450NK 2024 is no exception, and a new version for Canada this year. Although it’s not the queen of the NK, its ride and handling make it an exciting bike to ride. Let’s take a closer look together.

Design and finish

As soon as you set eyes on the CFMOTO 450NK 2024, its modern, sporty aesthetic immediately catches your eye. With its flowing, dynamic lines, its mechanical elements are skilfully highlighted by a streamlined design. LED headlights and taillights are effective for night-time cruising. And above all, they add an attractive lighting signature that’s instantly recognizable from afar.

The 450NK’s compact silhouette is ideal for urban driving. Easy to maneuver and light between the legs, it navigates dense traffic with ease. Its 5” TFT digital instrument panel is well positioned. It provides all essential information to the rider in a clear and accessible manner. All the while preserving the minimalist lines of this beautiful frame.

The digital display even offers connectivity for smartphones. The CFMOTO Ride application is well designed and gives an interesting advantage when combined with riding the bike.

Powertrain

The heart of the CFMOTO 450NK 2024 is a 450 cm3 twin-cylinder engine. It’s important to note that a motorcycle of this size is often given a single-cylinder engine, and this is one of the things that sets this bike apart. With such an engine, it’s able to move up a niche and take on bigger engines.

Power climbs to no less than 50 hp at 9500 rpm, and torque is 29 lb*ft. With this responsive powertrain, a stripped-down bike weighing just 170 kg can be propelled dynamically.

Basic suspension that does the job

CFMOTO has opted for fairly firm and well-tuned shock absorbers to ensure good roadholding. The inverted front fork provides effective steering precision. However, it is not adjustable, and you have to deal with a somewhat coarse front end on rough surfaces. At the same time, this is what makes for sporty riding and precise cornering.

At the rear, the monoshock on the swingarm is adjustable for spring preload. Nothing very exotic, but it makes for dynamic riding on good roads. A little more comfort can be provided by adjusting the spring preload if the road conditions deteriorate.

Wheels and brakes

The 17” alloy wheels are fitted with mid-range CST tires. Although not the best-performing tires, they provide good grip. They are well suited to this model’s use.

To harness the 450NK’s power, we use J. Juan brake components, a sister company of Brembo. A single 320 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc at the rear. Quite standard in this category, as is the presence of an ABS system.

How does it feel to ride it?

The CFMOTO 450NK 2024 offers a thrilling riding experience. Its power and precision are felt from the very first kilometers. The engine accelerates well from 6,000 rpm. If you’re in the right gear, you’ll find relatively impressive acceleration out of corners. It’s a tripper for city driving or attacking curves. Every twist of the throttle brings a smile to the face, along with the sound of the exhaust.

To put the brakes on, you’re treated to ABS braking, which delivers excellent performance for the front. It’s well calibrated and not too intrusive. At the rear, on the other hand, the action is felt too quickly and braking power is lost. The effect is mellow and not very precise, which we don’t appreciate for more aggressive riding. In short, the front brake is perfect, but the rear lacks precision.

The minimalist effect is strongly felt on the handlebars. The absence of a fairing doesn’t impede visibility, which makes for excellent sensations. Wind pressure is fully felt, intensifying the sensation of speed.

Handling is another of this bike’s major assets. It’s designed to be nimble and easy to maneuver, with a low weight. It feels well-balanced for quick, precise changes of direction. Its compact ergonomics make it ideal for urban riding and a feeling of speed. When cruising on back roads, it feels effortless to take tight turns. It offers the rider excellent control and stability.

Strengths

  • The two-cylinder engine is perfectly adapted and responsive. It’s a pleasure to rev it up, and the sound is inviting.
  • Finally, the manufacturer offers products with distinctive styling and dynamic lines to rival the competition. In other words, they now have their own identity.
  • The CFMOTO 450NK is a good urban bike for short, fast rides at an attractive retail price.

Areas for improvement

  • The passenger seat contributes to the fluid aesthetics of the vehicle, which is pleasing to the eye. However, it’s not very comfortable due to its material, slippery finish and lack of padding. For frequent trips for two, it would be wise to consider another type of seat.
  • Rear braking feels spongy and lacks power. ABS calibration should be reviewed.
  • The retail price is very close (too close) to that of a CFMOTO 800NK. This makes us want to go straight for the bigger displacement and higher-performance components.

The final word…

The CFMOTO 450NK 2024 stands out for its attractive looks. It delivers performance that lives up to expectations in this medium-displacement class. With its captivating sound and impeccable handling, it’s sure to win you over. Definitely worth considering if you’re looking for your first bike… and even for more accomplished riders. All in all, it’s a real pleasure to ride.
