During motorcycle tours, riders are exposed to injuries that can be severe in the event of a fall. Fortunately, specialized protective clothing is available to limit impact and abrasion injuries. However, users’ expectations vary widely when it comes to motorcycle pants. In addition to the protective function, many expect the pants to be suitable for everyday use.
Protective garments, like the Bull-it Jackal motorcycle jeans distributed by Kimpex, are designed to meet these expectations. These protective pants are designed for motorcyclists seeking a balance between safety, comfort and urban style. They are particularly suitable for everyday use or light touring.
Bull-it Jackal jeans design
Underneath the appearance of simple casual jeans, the Bull It Jackall has AA safety certification to CE standard EN 17092-3:2020, thanks to a high level of protection against abrasion and impact. Abrasion protection is provided by black Covec® Oneskin denim. This is a single-layer textile that is abrasion-resistant, yet lightweight and comfortable. This protection is complemented by RE ZRO® Level 1 rigid hip and knee protectors. Included as standard with the pants, they provide effective shock and impact absorption.
Designed for comfort, the Jackall pants feature a combat-style Easy Fit cut, with stretch panels at the knees for greater flexibility. Practical features include deep side and back pockets with snap closures, stretch hems with zippers for easy donning over boots, and reflective piping for enhanced visibility.
How comfortable is the Bull-it Jackal?
A first look at the Jackal reveals the quality of its construction. The cut with cargo pockets and the area above the knees give them a more para-military look. However, it remains tasteful and relaxed, making it suitable for both driving and everyday use.
When you put it on, it’s not uncomfortable in the standing position, but you don’t feel that the fit is perfect. However, once seated on the bike, it’s clear that the designers created it for comfortable riding. Pants are a thing of the past. Freedom of movement is remarkable, and the protectors, as far as I’m concerned, are very discreet. They fall in just the right place, and you can’t feel them. The pants don’t have vents to increase ventilation, but after riding in temperatures above 25 degrees, I didn’t find them any warmer than ordinary jeans. Although minor, I did find that they are a little more slippery on the vinyl of the saddle.
In short, the Bull It Jackall is a nice surprise when it comes to comfort in use.
Is it waterproof?
The Bull-it Jackal’s single-layer Covec® Oneskin denim has excellent abrasion resistance, but is not treated to be waterproof. You can’t have casual city style and all the conveniences at the same time. You might think of applying a waterproofing spray to the textile to temporarily improve water resistance, but this won’t turn the jeans into a waterproof garment. In a light rain, water may bead up on the surface for a while, but in a prolonged downpour, the fabric will eventually soak through. So, to get through rainy days, you’ll need to think about having a pair of waterproof pants over them.
The verdict
The Jackal Bull-it jeans are very comfortable to wear, so much so that once you’re sitting on the bike, you can’t tell the difference between these jeans and a pair of ordinary city jeans. It’s a great solution for those who want to be adequately protected against falls without sacrificing style. To try them is to adopt them.
Thanks to Kimpex for making the Bull-it Jackal possible.
