The 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 returns this year with a complete overhaul. A new design, reworked mechanicals, improved ergonomics and plenty of small refinements. Taken together, these changes breathe new life into an entry-level model that holds an important place in the manufacturer’s lineup.
But beyond the visible changes, what really catches our attention is the philosophy behind this new C5. CFMOTO seems to have found an interesting recipe… Keep the ATV relatively compact and affordable while giving it enough character, performance and equipment. The idea is to make sure it never feels like an entry-level model. So we climbed aboard the new 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 to find out what it truly has to offer.
A Design with an Increasingly Distinct CFMOTO Identity

The first thing that strikes you when you discover the new 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 is, of course, its design. The change is significant, and the model adopts the new visual signature also found on the C4. The two machines share the same design, with the main difference being the engine.
Distinctive Lighting and Futuristic Design

Up front, CFMOTO has paid particular attention to the lighting signature. The daytime running lights and main headlights give the C5 a modern, instantly recognizable face. That same attention carries through to the rear, allowing the vehicle to maintain its distinctive appearance from just about any angle.
And when you walk around the machine, the result works particularly well. The proportions are balanced, and several details give the C5 a much more mature look. The designers certainly deserve credit for those extravagant lines.

What is most interesting about CFMOTO’s styling evolution in recent years is that the manufacturer now seems to have found an identity of its own. Some earlier models could remind you of what was already being done elsewhere in the industry… Not to say they were borrowing certain designs from the competition.
That is no longer the case today, thanks to its distinctive appearance. The CFORCE C5 has a visual presence all its own. You can quickly recognize it as a CFMOTO without feeling that the manufacturer is trying to copy a competitor’s formula. This is an important evolution for the brand and, in the C5’s case, a particularly successful one.
A Reworked Engine

The 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 receives a reworked 499 cc single-cylinder engine. It produces a modest 39 horsepower but, more importantly, delivers a response that suits the machine’s purpose particularly well.
The manufacturer did not simply tweak a few mechanical settings. The vehicle’s overall architecture has also been revised, and the engine’s positioning plays an important role in how the new C5 behaves.

The layout of the main mechanical components has been reconsidered to improve mass centralization. The fuel tank now sits farther back, beneath the rider, while the engine itself has also been repositioned. This new arrangement brings another benefit that ATV riders quickly appreciate: better heat management and evacuation toward the rear. On long rides, especially at low speeds or when the engine is working harder, mechanical heat can easily rise toward the rider. On the C5, the new layout improves airflow and helps move that heat rearward. The result is a more pleasant overall experience for the rider and for a potential passenger.
Well-Matched, Spirited Power

Its 39 horsepower and maximum torque of 43 lb-ft are more than enough to move the machine with conviction. The sensation of performance sometimes exceeds what its displacement would suggest. This is where the C5’s size starts working in its favour. You might naturally think a larger-displacement model would automatically deliver a more dynamic experience. Yet that is not what you feel when moving from the C5 to some more imposing ATVs, such as the C6.
The C5 retains a liveliness that adds enormously to the riding pleasure. It responds quickly to inputs. Its engine has enough punch that you do not spend your time wishing for more power. For this kind of ATV, the balance is right, and you find yourself enjoying pushing the machine’s limits. A few photos tell the story, at times giving it the look of a sport quad.

Simple but Effective Mechanical Components!
The suspension on the 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 does not try to impress with a multitude of adjustments. The shocks are relatively simple, essentially allowing you to adjust spring preload. On paper, enthusiasts of more sophisticated mechanicals might naturally wish for more settings. But the context matters. The C5 remains an ATV in a relatively affordable category and, above all, the package works well.
There is a little over nine inches of travel at the rear and around eight inches up front. That is enough to tackle rough trails and absorb most of the obstacles this ATV will normally encounter.
It would be easy to add more complex shocks, extra adjustments and premium components, but the price would climb quickly. With the C5, CFMOTO seems to have favoured a simple, functional formula and, most importantly, excellent handling.
The Same Thinking Applies to Equipment

The manufacturer has long built part of its reputation on offering plenty of standard equipment. The C5 remains true to that philosophy. Up front, there is a 2,500 lb winch, a particularly useful accessory on an ATV intended for both recreation and work.
Mirrors are included as well. They are relevant for riders using Quebec’s federated trails, where they are among the required pieces of equipment.

Add to that a horn and turn signals. Some may see the latter as gadgets on an ATV, but personally, I find their inclusion rather clever. Beyond their practical side, they add a measure of safety when riding with other vehicles or when you need to clearly signal your intentions.
Taken individually, these features may seem secondary. Together, however, they make the C5 feel like a complete vehicle straight from the dealership, without inflating the bill with extra accessories before you can enjoy it.
Riding Impressions: Fun Before Numbers

It is probably from behind the handlebars that the 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 reveals its greatest quality. At a time when ATVs tend to grow ever larger, the C5 keeps its dimensions relatively reasonable. And that is a very good thing, perhaps even its greatest asset!
Its size quickly becomes an advantage when trails narrow or you begin riding a little more dynamically. The vehicle remains easy to place and to thread through tight trails. Better still, it feels as though it is working with its rider rather than constantly imposing its weight. In other words, the C5’s handling and agility are impressive.
How Does It Compare with Its Big Brother, the C6 PRO?

That is an interesting difference when you compare it with its big brother, the C6. You might naturally expect the larger, more powerful C6 (54 horsepower) to automatically deliver more performance and enjoyment. In practice, the feeling is exactly the opposite, and everyone on the team agreed… Riding enjoyment reaches its peak on the C5!
The C5 strikes a particularly successful balance between power, weight and dimensions. With 39 horsepower, everything you need is right under your right thumb. Throttle response is quick and energetic enough for strong acceleration, not to mention controlled slides from the rear end. In some situations, the machine even feels punchier than certain bigger models. Its power-to-weight ratio is excellent and delivers moments of pure enjoyment at the handlebars.
But Power Is Not Everything

Handling plays a huge role in the C5’s personality. The steering is well weighted and the vehicle responds naturally to inputs. The rider never feels constantly forced to fight the machine’s weight or dimensions to put it where it belongs. Its feel for the terrain is exceptional, and that is exactly what contributes to its excellent “fun factor.”
The C5 does not need spectacular horsepower or a specification sheet filled with impressive numbers to be enjoyable. Instead, it relies on a balanced, accessible formula. And personally, that is something I particularly appreciate in an ATV.
Rider Ergonomics and Presentation

Once seated on the C5, you also find a well-thought-out riding position. The ergonomics feel natural, and the cockpit in front of the rider benefits from a polished visual presentation. Nothing feels needlessly complicated.
The new five-inch display contributes greatly to that impression. Information is presented simply and remains easy to consult while riding. That is exactly what you want on this kind of vehicle. A screen does not need to become the centre of the riding experience. Above all, it should quickly provide the information you need without distracting you.
CFMOTO has also provided several ways to connect accessories, including USB and 12 V outlets. For someone who takes their ATV on long rides, these details quickly become useful. A phone, GPS and various electronic accessories can easily come along for the ride. Once again, no single feature is spectacular on its own. But add up the instrumentation, outlets, winch, mirrors, turn signals and other standard equipment, and CFMOTO’s approach becomes clearer. The C5 aims to be complete without becoming needlessly complex.
Areas for Improvement
The 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 left us with a good overall impression, but certain elements could naturally evolve.
- Effective suspension, but adjustments are limited to preload.
- Limited engine output, favouring manoeuvrability and accessibility over outright performance.
These points are better viewed as the natural compromises of its category than as genuine flaws.
Finally, one last point on a more subjective note. The design and its lines will not please everyone. With its sharp, futuristic look, you either love it or hate it. What do you think?
The Final Word

The 2027 CFMOTO CFORCE C5 definitely brings a breath of fresh air to the manufacturer’s lineup. Its modern, distinctive design, ergonomics and well-matched mechanicals improve the overall experience. But what stands out most after riding it is its coherence. With 39 horsepower, it is not trying to win the numbers war. Yet once on the trail, the combination of its lively engine, reasonable size, manoeuvrability and effective steering delivers a tremendous amount of fun. And that is probably where the C5 scores the most points.
At a time when ATVs keep getting bigger, more powerful, more sophisticated and, inevitably, more expensive… It is refreshing to find a machine that retains sensible dimensions while delivering a rewarding riding experience. If you are looking for an ATV around $10,000 without necessarily moving up to a large-displacement model, the 2027 CFORCE C5 certainly deserves consideration. It may not post the most impressive numbers when you compare specification sheets. But once you are behind the handlebars, it might just surprise you.
We thank CFMOTO Canada for lending us the vehicle used for this review.
