(THIEF RIVER FALLS, MINNESOTA, February 9, 2026) – The legendary “3Old Guys,” as they call themselves, will embark on another great snowmobile adventure this winter, aided by a fleet of easy-to-maneuver and highly maneuverable Arctic Cat snowmobiles.
Renowned adventurers Paul Dick, Rob Hallstrom, and Rex Hibbert will use 2026 Arctic Cat ZR 600 EPS snowmobiles equipped with electric power steering (EPS) to traverse the rugged Alaskan backcountry this month as ambassadors for the Iron Dog, the world’s longest and toughest snowmobile race. The three veterans will be joined by fellow Arctic Cat riders Brad Hellwig (owner of an Alaskan dealership and former Iron Dog competitor), his son Tyler Hellwig, and Tom Rowland, owner of Arctic Insider & Thomas Sno Sports, for a grueling 2,400 km journey between Big Lake and Nome, Alaska. Their adventure begins on Thursday, February 12.
The 2026 ZR 600 EPS is one of two snowmobiles offered by Arctic Cat that are the first production two-stroke snowmobiles equipped with power steering. The EPS system, which senses speed and torque, makes steering easier, dampens vibrations transmitted through the system, and reduces handlebar movement—all essential benefits for any rider.
Arctic Cat’s New EPS System Offers Numerous Benefits
For three drivers in their 60s and 75s who tackle challenging terrain on rutted trails, Arctic Cat’s exclusive EPS system offers particularly significant benefits, making each day of riding more enjoyable and far less tiring.
“Power steering is really going to be a game changer for us,” said Rob Hallstrom during a January test ride of the 2026 Arctic Cat ZR 600 EPS models. “We sometimes put 300 or even 400 miles a day on it, which can be very taxing. We know EPS will make things easier. Also, with EPS, we can use aggressive carbides without having to make the usual compromises with heavy steering that those carbides normally cause.”
“When we’re pushing into the dense bush, we’ll encounter rocks, frozen clods, and many other obstacles,” added Paul Dick. “It can be very demanding for any rider. EPS will undoubtedly make riding much easier.”
As ambassadors, the group will conduct a trial run of the Iron Dog course before the competition classes. Throughout their journey, the 3 Old Guys, accompanied by co-ambassadors Rowland and Hellwigs, will stop in towns and villages with their Arctic Cat ZR 600 EPS, share information about the Iron Dog, and distribute snowmobile safety equipment to schoolchildren. The 3 Old Guys’ official duties will conclude at the mid-course banquet in Nome, Alaska, but the trio plans to extend their trip well beyond that.
This adventure began in 2019
The 3 Old Guys first gained notoriety in 2019. They completed a 2,950-mile adventure from Paul Dick’s home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Churchill, Manitoba, on Arctic Cat Norseman 600 snowmobiles. In 2023, their legend grew even stronger with a demanding 5,600-mile adventure from Grand Rapids to Fairbanks, Alaska, on Arctic Cat Norseman 800 snowmobiles. Hundreds of thousands of viewers followed their adventure through daily updates on social media.
Last year, the trio completed a 3,700-mile journey from Grand Rapids to the Atlantic Ocean in Newfoundland and Labrador, on Riot 600 snowmobiles built on Arctic Cat’s new Catalyst chassis.
“These Catalysts were flawless, easy to ride, and very comfortable,” said Rex Hibbert. “They were perfect for this trip. We’ll now enjoy both the Catalyst and the power steering.”
“Not every snowmobiler will embark on the extreme expeditions that made the 3 Old Guys famous, but their adventures exemplify in many ways the spirit of adventure that drives every Arctic Cat snowmobiler,” said Brad Darling, president and CEO of Arctic Cat. “We are proud to be a part of their story and happy to have them join the Arctic Cat family.”
The 3 Old Guys Continue to Inspire
With every mile, every challenge, and every unforgettable story, the 3 Old Guys continue to inspire with their relentless pursuit of new horizons. Arctic Cat is much more than their means of transportation: it’s a loyal partner they can rely on during every challenging journey on trails, ice, and in the backcountry.
