With its design inspired by adult MXZ models and its astonishing performance for its category, it offers children a real riding experience, far from being just a toy. Ski-Doo confirms its position as leader in the youth snowmobile segment with the MXZ 120 and MXZ 200, which are evolving year after year.

Last year, we tested the MXZ 120, a model clearly designed for young children (ages 4 to 7, depending on the child’s size), with limited performance.

The MXZ 200, on the other hand, is aimed at riders aged 8 to 13, or even slightly older children who want to discover snowmobiling in a safe but stimulating environment. Let’s be honest: with this 200 version, we’re in a completely different league!

The MXZ 200 is really fun.

The snowmobile is lively, agile, and surprisingly powerful considering its compact size.

Design: a true MXZ in a smaller format

At first glance, there’s no mistaking it: the MXZ 200 has everything a big sled has. Its sharp fairing, well-integrated headlight, and meticulous finish give it a decidedly sporty look. Ski-Doo hasn’t just scaled down an adult snowmobile: the brand has taken care to preserve the essence of the MXZ family, both in terms of style and visual experience.

Comfort and ergonomics

The riding position is designed for young riders. The seat is the right length and width to maintain a comfortable posture even during long days of fun. The handlebars are adapted for small hands, providing excellent grip and intuitive control of the vehicle. The controls are simple, easy to understand, and perfect for beginners. As on the “real MXZ,” there are heated grips and thumbs, a significant luxury for small hands exposed to the rigors of winter.

The smooth and precise steering makes it easy to handle, especially in tight corners. The 93-inch track ensures solid traction and predictable control in all conditions.

Engine

At the heart of this little speedster is a 192cc air-cooled 4-stroke engine.

Like all 4-stroke engines, this engine runs on pure gasoline and requires little maintenance, which will appeal to parents. The standard electric starter makes it even easier to use.

The engine/CVT clutch combination is very well calibrated.

Power delivery is progressive, reassuring for beginners, but capable of offering a little more bite for more daring young riders.

Suspension adapted to young riders

At the front, the double A-arm suspension offers 4.5 inches of travel, providing stability and precision. At the rear, the compact suspension offers 8.5 inches of travel and swallows bumps with surprising ease, providing a level of comfort you wouldn’t expect from a small snowmobile like this one.

Safety

At Ski-Doo, safety is never an afterthought, and that’s clearly evident in the design of the MXZ 200. The emergency stop cord automatically shuts off the engine in the event of a fall, an essential feature for a machine intended for young riders.

Sturdy bumpers, both front and rear, protect the snowmobile in the event of an impact or run-off. But, of course, the best safety equipment is still what the child wears: a well-fitting, approved helmet, warm gloves or mittens, insulated boots, and a complete winter outfit. Speed and wind accentuate the feeling of cold, so proper equipment is essential.

Conclusion, a small one that looks like a big one

The 2025 Ski-Doo MXZ 200 strikes the perfect balance

between fun, performance, and peace of mind. Young riders

will find it an exciting and enjoyable machine, while parents will see it as a reliable, sturdy, and reassuring vehicle for introducing their children to snowmobiling. It’s also an excellent transition to a full-size snowmobile, serious enough for learning, but gentle enough to be reassuring. In short, it’s a mini snowmobile that’s anything but a toy.

Verdict: approved by a grandfather of four snowmobile-crazy grandchildren!
