Polaris introduces an all-new version to its Voyageur range for 2026. The manufacturer saw a gap to fill in its snowmobile range. Precisely between their popular hybrid, the Switchback Assault, and their efficient work machine, the Titan.

Introducing the Polaris 650 Voyageur 155 2026. Heralded as a snowmobile that’s capable of working… while still looking more comfortable and agile than a wide-track (20″) snowmobile. In short, the ultimate in versatility!

Has Polaris succeeded? Find out with us in this text summarizing our test ride at SnowShoot 2026 in Montana.

Matryx platform

It’s hard to overlook the fact that it all starts with the excellent Matryx platform. Its purpose is to position the snowmobiler perfectly at the center of the action. This is what it feels like to sit on the new Polaris 650 Voyageur 155 2026. You’ll also benefit from the quality of the finish, as well as from the ergonomics in general.

Seated high up, vision is optimal and it’s easy to alternate between sitting and standing. So it’s perfect for fast-paced trail riding and outings in fresh snow. Or for use on the job. The driver’s seat is comfortable and firm at the same time. The same goes for the companion passenger seat, which may be optional or included, depending on the version chosen.

Three versions available

As for the versions available, there are 3 on the menu;

The entry-level SP version. With the basic screen and the Cobra track with 1.6” studs.

– Then comes the XC version. Featuring a Crossover track with 2” studs and, above all, the 7S touchscreen with RIDE COMMAND. And a special mention for the FOX QS3 shock absorbers, which perform as well as ever.

– Finally, the Adventure Ultimate version sits at the top of the range. Equipped as standard with a passenger seat and distinctive colors. Choice of track (1.6 or 2″), large 7S screen and FOX QS3 rear suspension.

All versions include a trailer hitch and side guards (“rack”) for the loading area. This makes perfect sense in view of this snowmobile’s utilitarian vocation. At the rear, the Lock&Ride system is still in place, making it easy to attach various accessories. This system offers great flexibility, allowing you to configure the vehicle according to your needs, whether for leisure or work.

Patriot 650 engine

Polaris offers just one engine to power the Voyageur 155. It’s the excellent 2-stroke Patriot 650. Our test models pleasantly surprised us, as is often the case with this 650 cc engine. It offers immediate response and impressive low- and mid-range power. In fact, there’s hardly any noticeable difference with the Patriot 850 in this rev range. Of course, the 850 delivers far more raw power at higher revs, but the 650 remains competitive. Efficiency is excellent, and fuel consumption well below that of the larger-displacement engine. Clearly, for most users, the 650 engine is more than sufficient. However, it’s understandable that enthusiasts sometimes like to opt for the more powerful version. For the moment, the choice is limited to the 650, but an 850 version may become available in the next few years. Stay tuned!

Suspensions

For the suspension, we have a choice of IFP and/or FOX QS3 shock absorbers, depending on the version chosen. IFPs are simple to adjust in terms of spring preload only, but require a tool to do so. Even so, we’re partial to the FOX QS3 shock absorbers for their efficiency and rapid 3-position adjustment. Finally, all 3 versions offer a comfortable ride and excellent ground feel.

At the rear, the suspension geometry and rails are taken from those of the Polaris Titan. However, it has been made narrower. The final section of the Backtrak15 features an articulated carriage system. The end of the track is curved upwards, making it much easier to maneuver in reverse. In the worst-case scenario, you simply have to pick it up a few times. The overall efficiency of the reverse gear is superior to the competition.

Snow guard removable in seconds

What’s more, 2026 announces the arrival of a removable snow guard with a slide to remove it in seconds. This allows the snow guard to be removed for optimal snow evacuation during off-road driving. It also enhances your ability to reverse. Then, when we’re on the trails and need to cool down, we put it back on. It’s simple and effective, while offering enhanced capabilities.

Driving impressions

First, we tested the Polaris 650 Voyageur 155 2026 on groomed trails. The TrailBreaker skis are aggressive enough to guarantee precision and excellent handling. The curvature of the rear rails reduces the footprint. As a result, the length of the track in contact with the ground during turns is shortened. This translates into reduced effort for the driver compared to fully rigid tracks. In short, it doesn’t feel like we’re on a snowmobile with a 155” track.

On the other hand, it’s fair to say that the front skis (39“ to 41” adjustable) push the rider towards “ski lift” in curves. Especially when combined with the traction of the 2” track, which limits our enthusiasm for trails. The 1.6” Cobra track is preferable for those who want to be more trail-oriented. Overall, its behavior is predictable and offers good driving precision for this segment.

From a work perspective…

In terms of utility, we must start with the fact that the Polaris Voyageur has no low-gear transmission. As a result, the towing capacity of 450 pounds is lower than that of the Titan. However, a 450-lb towing capacity can already accomplish a lot with an adequate sled. In terms of cargo space, we’re talking about a capacity of 50 lbs, which means you can take a lot of items on expeditions.

With the Backtrak15 and its curved geometry, you can expect to lose a little traction with a reduced footprint. So, while we lose a little traction in terms of utility, we gain a lot in other respects.

During the SnowShoot, we were able to tow a 350-lb. sled without too much difficulty. All this with the 1.6” track in fresh snow. So, mission accomplished for the utility side of things.

What about off-roading now?

Finally, when it’s time to leave the snow, the Voyageur 155’s complete versatility comes into its own. Its flotation is excellent and, equipped with the 2” track, it can negotiate fairly technical mountain sections. The high driving position enables easy slaloms and even side hill lines. Here too, it succeeds without being a real mountain beast like an RMK, for example.

Conclusion

The all-new Polaris 650 Voyageur 155 2026 fills a gap in the range in terms of versatility. Well positioned between a Switchback Assault and a Titan, it will definitely find fans in this market segment. A machine that lets you have fun on the trails, work and even get into the powder. A snowmobile that does just about everything well, without excelling in any one area… That’s how the 155” version of the Polaris Voyageur sums it up.
