For the 2024-2025 winter season, I have the opportunity to thoroughly test my CKX kit. This includes the one-piece CKX ELEVATION ZERO suit and the CKX TITAN AIR FLOW helmet. After several years of using this winning duo, I’m still thoroughly enjoying these products from the Quebec manufacturer. Let’s take a closer look at the main advantages of this high-performance equipment, specially designed for winter conditions.

CKX ZERO ELEVATION

When choosing a snowmobile package, it’s essential to clearly define its use. For trail riding, effective insulation is essential for moderate to low effort. On the other hand, for off-piste outings, a lightweight package with little (if any) insulation is required. The CKX ELEVATION ZERO is the perfect choice.

Although the ELEVATION ZERO is not insulated, its materials provide remarkable protection against Quebec’s harsh winter conditions. It combines lightness, waterproofing and softness of fabric, while allowing good evacuation of body humidity. Thanks to technological advances, CKX has succeeded in integrating these essential qualities into a package that combines performance and comfort.

Here are the main technical features:

  • Wind and water resistance (membrane): 20,000 mm
  • Breathability (membrane): 15,000 g/m²/day
  • 100% polyester P8-Tex fabric
  • Cordura reinforcements on knees and legs
  • Reinforced Reetex zone for buttocks
  • Sealed seams for waterproofing

Testing under extreme conditions

To assess the effectiveness of a garment, it’s essential to test it in a variety of weather conditions. So I put the garment to the test in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +5°C. Whether it was sunny, rainy, extremely cold or stormy. And every time, comfort was impeccable. The set was used on several outings, both on trails and off-piste. The ZERO version, which has no insulation, is particularly well-suited to off-trail. The suit ideally requires sustained physical effort to generate the heat needed for comfort. However, with insulating underlays, it also becomes very comfortable on trails.

The fit of the suit is optimal, thanks to well-thought-out adjustments. Adjustable and removable inner straps, plus Velcro adjustments at waist, wrists and legs. The stretch back panel adapts perfectly to movement without exerting tension.

Even at -25°C, the CKX ELEVATION ZERO remains flexible and ensures excellent humidity evacuation. After a full day in the snow, I was always dry and comfortable. On the trails, when it’s extremely cold, with temperatures of -30°C, it’s advisable to add an insulating underlayer. A heated jacket would be even more effective in providing extra warmth. The CKX set keeps you warm and 100% windproof thanks to its high-performance membrane.

A reminder

If the jumpsuit look isn’t for you, CKX also offers a complete range of coats and pants. Suitable for all types of snowmobilers. Whether for trails, off-trail, or for those who are colder than others!

CKX TITAN AIR FLOW helmet

I’ve been wearing the CKX TITAN helmet since its first incarnation. The first generation certainly had a few shortcomings, especially for off-piste enthusiasts. But these are now a thing of the past with the CKX TITAN AIR FLOW, which offers optimum ventilation. This system is ideal for evacuating the heat and humidity generated by sustained physical effort.

What really sets this helmet apart is its adaptability to outdoor conditions and personal preferences. CKX offers two distinct models: Either the Original, designed for trails with fewer vents to limit the intake of fresh air. Conversely, the AIR FLOW version focuses on increased ventilation.

Once you’ve chosen your model, simply adjust it to fit your face perfectly. Then, depending on use, you can add or remove air plugs to modulate ventilation. For trails, plugs are recommended to limit air intake, while for off-trail use, removing them allows maximum ventilation.

The helmet’s overall comfort is remarkable, and the addition of the removable muzzle is a real asset. Simply remove the goggles and attach them to the top of the helmet, allowing you to breathe freely, drink or eat without having to remove the entire helmet. A truly practical feature which, once adopted, becomes a must-have.

The 210° goggles offer a very wide panoramic view, perfect for mountain riding. What’s more, CKX offers several goggle configurations: ventilated or non-ventilated, as well as electric models with plug-in connections to prevent fogging. Personally, I don’t find it necessary to have heated goggles, especially when the helmet fits my face properly. I prefer to carry an extra pair of goggles in my bag. For after-dinner moments, when temperatures and humidity fluctuate, which can lead to fogging. So, by alternating between glasses, I always keep my vision clear and optimal.

Conclusion

The CKX ÉLEVATION ZERO one-piece set was once again an excellent ally this season. As has the CKX TITAN AIR FLOW helmet. This duo is perfect for my mountain snowmobiling, yet versatile enough for trail riding. It’s essential to define your insulation needs and choose the right equipment to meet them. There’s no such thing as bad winter weather, only bad clothing that leaves you cold. What’s more, it’s crucial to opt for an effective underlay that allows humidity to evacuate properly.

The 4Riders Magazine team would like to thank CKX and Kimpex for making this test possible. For more information on CKX clothing and equipment, please visit the CKX website.
