Table des matières

2026 marks a major turning point for the Expedition range at Ski-Doo. The arrival of the Gen5 chassis was definitely a must for the continuity that began several seasons ago. 2026 marks the integration of utility models into the new platform. Ski-Doo’s senior management remains focused on a highly versatile snowmobile that can handle heavy-duty work, such as very long rides and expeditions, even off-trail, while remaining extremely comfortable. A new, completely redesigned rear suspension, a new chassis, and great standard features. Let’s take a look at the most equipped and luxurious model in the lineup, the 2026 Expedition SE.

GEN5 utility platform!

Introduced in 2024, the Gen5 chassis is now making its debut in the utility segment for 2026, which makes perfect sense. Several components have been reworked to adapt to work snowmobiles. Here are a few highlights:

  • Greater rigidity, which improves component longevity.
  • Better weight balance and improved ergonomics for easier maneuvering.
  • It also allows for easier integration of technology, such as advanced suspension systems and smart instrument displays.

Mountain running boards…

With its predisposition for hard, frequent off-road work, the Expedition SE is equipped with the same running boards found on the mountain versions, with wider spacing to clear away accumulated snow.

  • Open and wide, they prevent snow and ice buildup and reduce unnecessary weight.
  • Makes it easier to maneuver in the woods or powder, allowing for good footing even in tough conditions.

New Cross Cut track

  • Reduced vibration and noise
  • New lug pattern improves traction.
  • Better pressure distribution on the skids.
  • Larger track openings for better cooling of the skids.

Connectivity

10.25-inch screen

New to the multisegment range, connectivity is integrated with the 10.25-inch touchscreen. A great new feature for 2026, several functions can be used without a cellular network via Bluetooth connection:

  • The new Group Ride feature, with built-in GPS, allows you to locate colleagues in your group equipped with the same technology within a range of approximately 1.6 kilometers.
  • The integrated GPS allows you to use topographic maps to access snowmobile trail maps without a cellular connection.
  • You can also record your trip route for later use, directly in the app without a cellular connection.
  • The same features are available with the BRP GO app, adding turn-by-turn route planning, point of interest search, ride statistics, and more.

Better lighting

LED lighting

Although expected, the arrival of much more powerful LED lights was in high demand. Whether for night rides or early morning and late evening work, this lighting offers significantly better visibility than halogen headlights. More efficient and safer! Note the Heavy Duty front bumper in the photo!

New uMotion rear suspension

uMotion articulated rear suspension

The new uMotion rear suspension has been completely redesigned for 2026 with two goals in mind: to offer increased comfort and optimal efficiency, whether in deep snow or on the trail. Here are a few details:

Although the front suspension arm angle remains the same as on the previous SC5U, it has been lengthened to improve weight transfer. This keeps the skis on the ground longer during acceleration for better control. Engineers have also optimized travel, with a 27 mm gain, resulting in a 135-pound payload capacity and 1,200 pounds of towing capacity, which can be increased to 1,500 pounds with the addition of the heavy-duty bumper available as an accessory.

Engine.

The 2026 Expedition SE offers a complete range of engines, allowing each snowmobile rider to choose according to their needs: power, reliability, fuel consumption or weight. Four engine options are available:

  • Rotax 900 ACE Turbo R, 180 hp, four-stroke
  • Rotax 900 ACE Turbo, 130 hp, four-stroke
  • Rotax 900 ACE, 95 hp, four-stroke
  • Rotax 850 E-TEC, 165 hp, two-stroke

Our test…

The SE Expedition in the splendid scenery of Montana!

Our test allowed us to see the effectiveness of the uMotion rear suspension in terms of weight transfer. Although we were unable to pull a load, we did find that acceleration out of corners allows for a much more progressive weight transfer than previous versions. This keeps the skis on the ground longer for better stability. It’s important to mention that the flexible part of the rear suspension can be locked with the adjustments provided to optimize suspension ground clearance.

Huge standard rear trunk!

Speaking of cargo, the SE version will come standard with the Premium Link utility trunk. Offering no less than 135 liters of capacity, this modular trunk is divided into two main compartments and, of course, uses the Link attachment system introduced several years ago.

Crosscut track

The new 154-inch by 20-inch wide Crosscut track, with its 1.5-inch lugs, provides excellent traction. But most importantly, it significantly reduces the noise level felt on board, a very important factor for those who enjoy long rides.

900 ACE Turbo R 180 horsepower

Our test vehicle was equipped with the 900 ACE Turbo R engine developing 180 horsepower. Needless to say, this engine is more than enough for a utility vehicle, offering a nice balance between work and fun on the trail. That said, like any turbocharged engine, precise throttle control takes some getting used to, especially when towing heavy loads. The rapid power delivery characteristic of the turbo requires a certain finesse in adjusting the pressure on the throttle.

It’s hard to find fault with this snowmobile after a short test drive. That said, a few things are worth mentioning. The 20-inch-wide track creates a gap in the tunnel, which means that if you’re on the short side, you may find your legs spread quite wide. Although the top of the tunnel is V-shaped to improve ergonomics, this aspect is still worth considering.

It’s also important to mention the weight of the vehicle. If you get stuck, you’ll probably need a winch to help you out, especially if you’re alone.

Let’s have some fun!

Despite these considerations, this snowmobile stands out for its user-friendliness and impressive comfort. The seating positions for the driver and passenger are practically perfect, with excellent wind protection thanks to the large windshield. In short, this is a vehicle that offers remarkable versatility for both utility work and trail riding.
