All-new snowmobile offered for North America, the 2026 LYNX Commander RE makes its debut. Versatility, power, comfort and the ability to tackle any situation are just a few of the adjectives that fit it perfectly. We invite you to join us in discovering this amazing machine, which is finally crossing the ocean to seduce us.
Design and generous standard equipment
The 2026 LYNX Commander RE is based on the Radien2 platform. This chassis is both light and rigid, offering precise handling. The rider is perfectly centered in the action, in a comfortable position. It’s low enough to guarantee comfort on trail sections. At the same time, the high handlebars make it easy to get up and move around in fresh snow.
The Commander boasts an aggressive design, with its streamlined nose and four LED lights. What’s more, it features a sturdy front bumper, perfectly integrated into the model. Handlebar controls are intuitive and well placed, offering impeccable ergonomics. What’s more, the quality of the finish must be underlined, with attention to every detail.
Right from the start, the snowmobile comes standard with a 10.25” touchscreen. GPS navigation has also been integrated this year. So, even if you lose your cell phone signal, you’ll still be able to find your way around easily. And you’ll be able to find out where your buddies are (if they have the same system).
A noteworthy feature is a snow guard that lifts into a vertical position to allow more snow to evacuate. A simple, ingenious system that increases off-road capability by reducing drag. And when you’re on the trails, you can put it in the standard position to optimize cooling.
180 hp turbocharged engine!
The Commander RE comes standard with a huge 20“ wide, 154” long track and 1.75” studs. This is an efficient way of transmitting the 180 HP produced by the Rotax 900 ACE Turbo R engine. In short, a winning combination for all kinds of tasks on this versatile snowmobile.
A selector allows power delivery to be modulated at 3 levels (Eco, Normal and Sport). These riding modes effectively adjust throttle response and available power. Which makes a lot of sense with the many vocations on offer.
As a bonus, we must mention the presence of the transmission for optimal use in any situation. In “LOW” mode, you can tackle heavy towing or off-road tasks. Maximum power is instantly available. On the other hand, in HIGH mode, you can ride at high speed on trail sections. Once again, the emphasis is on versatility.
Trail riding impressions
As soon as the throttle is applied, the mechanical noise is immediately striking. The clutch calibration is perfectly adjusted, allowing power to be transmitted instantly to the snow. After just a few minutes of riding, it’s clear that this snowmobile has a lot going for it. Wrists are put to the test, and you have to hold on tight to stay in control. With its aggressive track and 1.75:” studs, it offers exceptional grip on trails. Handling is excellent for a snowmobile of this size and width.
Comfort far surpasses that of competing models in this segment. It’s worth noting that it comes standard with a soft, heated seat for long days. Although this snowmobile isn’t designed exclusively for trails, it’s still a real pleasure to ride on worked surfaces.
It’s important to bear in mind that its long track makes it particularly prone to understeer in curves. Considering the exceptional grip of its track, it can cause a lack of pressure on the skis. You’ll need to use the gas lever carefully when linking turns. One thing’s for sure: the Commander RE puts a smile on your face every time you come out of a curve, thanks to its powerful and impressive acceleration.
Off-piste impressions
Despite its relatively high weight (650lbs), it offers remarkable agility in deep snow and surprises with its performance. Thanks to its long, wide track and Blade DS+ skis, it floats impressively in the snow. It can explore a wide variety of snowy terrain, as long as it’s not too steep. But you’ll have to keep your wits about you, as it’s no match for its sister, the Shredder.
On more open or relatively flat terrain, it’s an ideal choice. Transitions from left to right are easy. In mountainous terrain, it’s even possible to perform “side hill ” maneuvers while staying on track. This is more than surprising for a snowmobile with a 20” wide track. The steering is precise, and riding in powder is an undeniable pleasure.
On the other hand, when slalom maneuvers are involved, the width of the skis (39″) limits movement a little. What’s more, when it comes to technical maneuvers between obstacles, the effort required is greater. Especially when compared to a narrower, lighter 2-stroke snowmobile. All in all, however, this versatile snowmobile remains a pleasant surprise in terms of its remarkable capabilities.
High-performance suspension
The 2026 LYNX Commander RE is distinguished by its high-quality suspension. Equipped with KYB PRO 36 front and KYB PRO 46 rear shock absorbers. Their Kashima coating provides extra durability. What’s more, easy ratchet adjustment allows you to adjust preload, rebound and rebound damping.
The EasyRide+ rear suspension is ultra-solid, ideal for work or even for taking bumps without flinching. At the front, LFS+ geometry provides a stable, predictable ride. Arched arms provide extra ground clearance. Combined, the suspensions offer healthy feedback to the rider, while keeping control with ease.
In utility use
On the utility side, the LYNX Commander wins points with its “LOW” ratio transmission. This provides excellent towing capacity, ideal for the toughest jobs. Its standard trailer hitch allows you to transport a sleigh, and its Multi-LinQ plate lets you take everything you need with you. In short, a solid base for your expeditions and the many tasks you want to accomplish. Every detail has been thought out for long adventures. Perfectly suited to snowmobilers with an explorer’s spirit.
Note that with EasyRide+ rear suspension geometry, reverse maneuvers are less efficient than in competition. Given its design with rigid rails all the way to the rear, the rear end has a greater tendency to dig in. On the other hand, the footprint is maximized, which optimizes traction, which is essential in utility use. All in all, the LYNX Commander fully fulfills its utility role.
Points for improvement
- The passenger seat is not included, and you’ll have to pay for it if you need it for 2 people.
- The windshield offers virtually no wind protection for trail use.
- The color scheme is a little too sober for the dynamism and impressive capabilities of this snowmobile.
The final word
Whether in the powder to discover unexplored places. On the trails. Or working with its utility aspect, the 2026 LYNX Commander RE promises thrills and spills. A true “Swiss Army knife” with undeniable versatility!
