A new era of mountain snowmobiling is dawning, more focused on exploring new playgrounds than just being able to float on the snow, more focused on pushing your technical riding limits than just climbing the highest peaks.
Getting to places that are still inaccessible and taming technical areas with less effort is what BRP’s Ski-Doo development team has been working on. Their efforts culminated in the Summit models designed with the REV Gen4 platform and Rotax 850 E-TEC engine, snowmobiles that kept Ski-Doo at the top of the mountain snowmobile market in 2017.
For 2018, even more snowmobilers will increase their confidence and enjoyment, as the 371- and 445-cm (146- and 175-inch) track Summit SP and 445-cm (175-inch) track Summit X packages in turn benefit from the combination of the REV Gen4 platform and the Rotax 850 E-TEC engine.
At its core, the Summit REV Gen4 models are designed to be agile and easy to control, with mass centralization, a rigid chassis and suspension built specifically for off-trail riding. A wide range of features were specifically designed for easy riding on the side of the mountain and fun in the powder, such as the very narrow shape, the open tunnel, the steps designed to evacuate snow and a unique track design. The 850 E-TEC engine is the most powerful 2-stroke engine in the snowmobile industry and its ultra-fast response provides even more control in deep snow.
But the main feature that really sets the 2018 Summit models with REV Gen4 platform apart is their rider-centric design. The cockpit and seat are almost as narrow as a motocrosser’s while the running boards offer plenty of room and reach farther forward. Adding the smaller seat and handlebar controls, the overall design allows the rider to maneuver the snowmobile effortlessly. The vehicle has been described as “fun” and “dynamic”, “requires a fraction of the effort to drive” and “feels like a snowbike”.
And because BRP is constantly challenging the impossible, a remarkable new technology is entering the mountain snowmobile world to reduce fatigue and increase fun: E-TEC SHOT starting technology. Available as a factory-installed option, this starter uses E-TEC technology and a supercapacitor to provide one-touch starting. The science-fiction-like SHOT system adds only 2 lbs. to the weight of a manual starter and eliminates multiple manual starts in a day.
Many riders who snowmobile at lower elevations choose the Summit model for use in deep snow or on lower slopes. To accommodate this need, BRP offers two drivetrain calibrations on Summit X models (only): a high altitude calibration for altitudes over 1200 m, and a sea level calibration for altitudes below 1200 m.

SKI-DOO SUMMIT 2018 LINE
2018 Ski-Doo Summit X
OVERVIEW
Available only during Spring Fever, the 2018 Summit X is the cream of the Summit crop, the top-of-the-line model enhanced with features and options. All three versions – with 391, 420 and now 445 cm (154, 165 and 175 in.) tracks – are equipped with the REV Gen4 platform that provides effortless control, and the powerful Rotax 850 E-TEC engine with ultra-fast response.
Enthusiasts who had nothing but praise for the maneuverability of the 174-inch Summit REV-XM snowmobiles will be impressed with the ease with which the agile Summit REV Gen4 controls itself on any terrain and in any snow conditions.
For 2018, the revolutionary new E-TEC SHOT starting technology is available as a factory installed option. After an initial manual start, all other starts are done with the push of a button. This system, which is powered by a supercapacitor and E-TEC, weighs only 2 lbs (1 kg) more than a recoil starter and nearly 20 lbs (9 kg) less than a conventional electric starter. A feature that sounds like something out of a science fiction movie.
On the 154 and 165 models, buyers can choose between a 6.3 cm/2.5 in. track profile (standard) and a 7.63 cm/3.0 in. profile (optional). The 175 version comes standard with a 3.0″ profile. Summit X snowmobiles stand out from the in-season SP model, with lightweight aluminum shocks and sturdy running boards with contoured openings. For 2018, a 1″ shorter elevation block will suit more snowmobilers.
New features include the octane blue/mantis green color choice popular with the 2017 Freeride models.
