Electronic Power Steering (DAE)
Yamaha’s lightweight, high-tech DAE requires no fluids or heavy pumps. It’s a dynamic system that monitors vehicle speed, engine speed, and rider directional input to calculate the optimal steering assist. Thus, at low speeds, the assistance increases, and at high speeds, it decreases. The DAE accomplishes a few things: First, it reduces the effort required to steer the snowmobile. Second, it helps limit the feedback that goes through the skis. And since the steering effort is less demanding, you can install different skis and slides without affecting the steering. A judicious combination of AED, suspension geometry, skis and rails allow the Apex to negotiate turns like a virtuoso without requiring too much effort.
EXUP Valve Develops Torque Smoothly
Yamaha’s exclusive EXUP system features a titanium body and throttle valves that prevent backflow of fuel mixture due to valve crossover. The main advantages of the system? Weight reduction, elimination of idle time in the powerband and reduced emissions.
Flow-controlled die-cast chassis
This lightweight, flow-controlled die-cast chassis is exceptionally rigid and balanced. Its redesigned rear section has been adapted to the shortened muffler to further centralize mass.
Tuned For High Performance
The Apex’s engine is known for producing a lot of HP and making it easy for the rider to exploit the power. How do you do that? With revisions to the valve timing, intake and exhaust in 38mm titanium 4-in-1 with EXUP valve. The result is very quick acceleration and impressive torque at low and mid-range speeds, and then simply exceptional torque at high speeds, where you need it.
Revised Intake Valve Timing
Yamaha engineers increased the intake valve lift angle from 104° to 109° to increase the intake/exhaust valve overlap. So, with the contribution of the EXUP valve, there’s plenty of power to go around.
Lightweight Pistons and Segments
The forged aluminum piston crowns are shaped to promote even combustion of the air/fuel mixture. These pistons are strong despite their lightness, they reduce vibrations and hum softly.
Idle Speed Regulator (RRR)
Immediately after starting, this governor provides a stable idle speed. Not only does it improve starting and idle stability, it also controls idle speed changes to help warm up the engine, make starting easier, and improve performance at high altitudes. The RRR contains the Engine Brake Reduction Device (EBD).
Detonation Sensor
A knock sensor adjusts the ignition timing to prevent erratic combustion. If you pour low-octane gasoline into the tank, the ignition timing will automatically compensate by retarding the ignition timing to prevent knocking. This way, you can count on consistent and reliable engine performance.
Intake Trumpets and Intake Duct
The air horns, together with the air cleaner, team up with the EXUP valve to perform brilliantly.
4 In 1 Titanium Muffler, 38 Mm – Performance
The new 4-in-1 38mm titanium mufflers are carefully tuned to make plenty of power at high rpm. The exhaust pipe (larger in diameter than previous models) combines with the EXUP valve to improve the efficiency of the pressure waves coming from each cylinder and resonating inside the mufflers. As a result, performance is improved at mid and high engine speeds. The new design uses a diffuser pipe and moves the muffler forward; these elements contribute to better centralization of mass.
