Rovaniemi, Finland, December 8, 2016 – BRP presents the Lynx Antarctic Adventure, the third edition of the series, where four explorers will embark on a 4,400 km snowmobile expedition to the South Pole. The public will be able to follow this perilous expedition online at www.lynxadventure.com.

Led by renowned Finnish explorer Patrick “Pata” Degerman, the Lynx Antarctic Adventure will be one of the longest snowmobile expeditions ever undertaken on the southern continent. The adventure is scheduled to begin on December 21, 2016. The team’s goal is to celebrate New Year’s Day at the South Pole.

The realization of a dream – BRP Presents the Lynx Antarctic Adventure Edition

The idea for the expedition came from Pekka Ojanpää, who dreamed of setting foot at the South Pole. “Pekka expressed his desire to go to the South Pole and his determination convinced me,” said Degerman, a seasoned explorer. “This will be my sixth expedition to Antarctica and the opportunity to climb a mountain in a previously unexplored land is what motivates me,” he added. The year 2017 will mark the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence, and the mountain the team will tackle on this expedition will be named “Mount Suomi” (which means “Finland” in the country’s language) to mark this important moment in its history. Mika Listala and Jón Ólafur Magnusson will round out the team, who will bring their technical expertise and exploration experience to the table.

Ready to face the most extreme conditions

Lynx Commander Touratech snowmobiles and Lynx equipment will be provided by BRP to the expedition members. “Lynx products are designed to perform in even the most challenging conditions. A trip to the South Pole and back is the perfect way to test their capabilities. So we were immediately excited when the team presented us with their idea,” said Valto Ristimella, marketing manager for BRP’s Finnish subsidiary. “The Lynx Commander Touratech model was the one chosen for this trip: it was the ultimate adventure snowmobile and the one best suited to the expedition’s needs,” Ristimella added.

An odyssey to follow live

The Antarctic expedition will be part of the Lynx Adventure Series, which takes snowmobilers out of their comfort zone and puts their equipment to the test. “The original idea behind the Lynx Adventure Series was to allow the public to follow the expeditions live on the Internet. Previous Lynx adventures have already conquered the world, and this time we want to take the virtual experience to another level,” Ristimella promised.
