CFMOTO continues its momentum in 2025 with a new vehicle in its line of utility side-by-side vehicles: the UFORCE 800 XL. Positioned between the more compact models and the very high-capacity versions. This newcomer completes the brand’s offering with a solution designed for both work and leisure. We had the opportunity to test it out, and here is our verdict.
A familiar design and a remarkable finish
The 2025 CFMOTO UFORCE 800 XL retains most of the size and style of the UFORCE 600 introduced a few years earlier. The lines are classic for this segment, without being overly angular. At first glance, the vehicle gives an impression of solidity. Nothing revolutionary in terms of aesthetics, but a simple and effective approach that remains contemporary.
The quality of the finish is in line with expectations for a vehicle in this segment and continues to improve for this manufacturer: the plastics are well fitted, the structure inspires confidence, and the whole is well assembled. CFMOTO also has the good sense to offer generous standard equipment. In addition, our test model had a few useful accessories: windshield, rear glass panel, front and rear bumpers.
V-Twin Engine
Under the tilting bed is an 800cc V-twin engine. It delivers 63 horsepower and 51 lb-ft of torque. These are not high-performance figures. However, the engine is perfectly suited to the utility use for which the vehicle is designed. Whether for towing, transporting, or simply getting around, the engine delivers consistent and flexible performance.
New OmniDrive Transmission
One of the major new features for 2025 is the introduction of the OmniDrive transmission, manufactured entirely by CFMOTO. Inspired by the well-known CVTech IBC systems, this CVT is smooth and well calibrated. Start-ups are smooth, and acceleration is well managed with predictable response. In real-world use, the engine-transmission combination offers a consistent, pleasant, and above all, reliable package.
Suspension and wheels: a compromise between work and leisure
The 2025 CFMOTO UFORCE 800 XL is based on a double wishbone independent suspension configuration at both the front and rear. The shock absorbers only allow for preload adjustment. This limits the possibilities for customization somewhat, but is still sufficient for the majority of users.
The suspension travel is 9 inches on all four wheels, allowing it to cope well with uneven terrain. The ground clearance is respectable at 11.8 inches, which allows for good obstacle clearance.
The 14-inch aluminium rims are fitted with CST tires that offer good grip and quiet rolling. On the ground, they grip well without generating too much noise or vibration. Whether on loose, rocky, or even wet ground, the vehicle remains stable and reassuring. Traction is excellent both in work situations and on trails with the various modes available.
Load and towing capacity suited to tough jobs
This vehicle is designed to work and accomplish any task you throw at it. Its rear bed can hold up to 660 pounds of material, while its towing capacity reaches 1,500 pounds. These figures are well positioned for a vehicle in this category and are on par with the competition.
Driving comfort and overall ergonomics
The first positive point to mention is accessibility. Getting in and out of the vehicle is easy, thanks to a wide opening and a clear floor. The driving position is very upright, designed for long hours of work rather than recreational outings.
The steering wheel is adjustable, as is the driver’s seat, making it easy to find a comfortable position. Inside, the controls are logical, the ergonomics are simple, and there is plenty of storage space.
When driving on trails, the engine provides enough power for efficient and enjoyable travel. However, this is clearly not a vehicle designed for performance. It should be noted that handling becomes less precise at high speeds, but the electric power steering (EPS) helps to smooth out maneuvers. This is most likely a side effect of the particularly short turning radius. Nevertheless, the latter proves to be practical when manoeuvring in confined spaces at low speeds. And that’s exactly what a utility vehicle should prioritize.
A few areas for improvement
Despite its many qualities, the 2025 UFORCE 800 XL has a few areas that could be improved.
- First, even though the cabin has two large benches, each capable of seating three passengers… There are no seat belts for all six passengers. Nor are there headrests in the front. This somewhat limits its versatility to four passengers and the safety of transporting several adults.
- The nets that serve as doors give a very economical impression. A rigid or more refined door system would be desirable given the asking price.
- Finally, the braking system shows its limitations when the vehicle is heavily loaded, particularly when going downhill or stopping suddenly. An improvement in this area would allow the vehicle’s full working potential to be exploited with maximum control.
Conclusion
The 2025 CFMOTO UFORCE 800 XL is in line with the manufacturer’s ongoing efforts to offer well-equipped, competitive, and affordable vehicles. It features a reliable engine, modern transmission, good load capacity, and a wide range of standard equipment. As such, it ticks several boxes for users looking for a solid work partner. And one that allows for fun outings from time to time.
