Mirrors are mandatory equipment for SUVs in many juridictions and, frankly, it is difficult to imagine driving these vehicles without them. There are a multitude of products on the market, many of dubious quality. We tested a set of side mirrors and a center mirror distributed by Kimpex. Here are the results of our observations.
Kolpin center mirror – Kimpex code 002445
This mirror is attached to the vehicle’s roll bar by a simple assembly. It is fixed by simply tightening an anchor around the roll bar tube. The device is designed to adapt to all pipe diameters. The mirror, which has a very wide range of adjustment, is then simply attached to it.
The mirror has a slightly concave shape that widens the field of vision behind the vehicle. The rearward view is wide and the driver can see the entire area between the two rear posts at a glance. The convexity of the glass is not pronounced enough to alter the perception of the position of objects in space. Finally, it should be noted that the image remains clear at all times (no vibrations) and that the mirror retains its adjustment position no matter how you shake the machine in difficult terrain.
UTV Seizmik side mirrors – Kimpex code 175618
Seizmik products are starting to gain favorable recognition on social networks and we wanted to test the quality of this equipment for ourselves.
First of all, the set we had for the test is designed for 1.75” diameter protective cages, while the cage on our test vehicle was a profiled type (Polaris). So we used a mount from a different set. Nevertheless, we were able to test the product’s performance properly.
The surface of this model of rear-view mirror is square and of a good size. It provides a fairly wide rear view. You can even see the wheels if you need to reverse in tricky places. When driving, the view is clear thanks to good vibration control. The possible range of adjustment is more than adequate and the mirror retains its adjustment position. If you pass through a restricted area, it will close on the side of the vehicle without any problem. Finally, note that the quality of the plastic is good and impact resistant.
Kimpex UTV roof light – Kimpex code 283017
Kimpex offers a versatile UTV dome light that can be used universally in all vehicles, as long as they are equipped with a roll cage. It is a rechargeable LED lamp that is attached to the roll cage tube with Velcro straps. The LED lamp is operated with a button at the end of the housing and provides two types of lighting: a narrow beam and a wider one. The lighting power is sufficient to properly illuminate the inside of the cabin. In addition, the lamp is detachable and you can use it to quickly check something in the darkness around the vehicle.
