Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. has announced that effective July 1, 2016, North America will serve as the global headquarters for its snowmobile operations.
The new North American Snowmobile Division will take over management of Yamaha’s snowmobile business worldwide, including management of product development, operations planning and marketing. The goal is to increase focus on North America by accelerating product development, improving collaboration with industry partners to increase operational efficiencies, and making increasingly informed product research and planning decisions given the close proximity to the snowmobile market.
The Division will be headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. It will bring together employees from Canada and the United States to remain focused on the two core markets.

“Yamaha Motor of Canada and Yamaha Motor USA have had many snowmobile-related responsibilities for a number of years now,” said Peter Smallman-Tew, team leader of the Snowmobile Group. “Yamaha Motor Co. We are confident that these changes will help us better serve our dealer networks and Yamaha snowmobile enthusiasts across North America.”
As a result of these changes, day-to-day snowmobile operations currently held at Yamaha Motor USA’s Lakeview location in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, will be relocated to Toronto, Ontario; Minocqua, Wisconsin; and Kennesaw, Georgia.
Yamaha‘s North American Snowmobile Division is actively preparing for the arrival of the first series of Sidewinder snowmobiles – the most powerful ever! In addition to this intense excitement, the upcoming 2017 season will mark the 50th anniversary of Yamaha snowmobiles with the launch of our 2018 models. This promises to be a very exciting season!
