Mountain snowmobiles are becoming increasingly specialized, and 2022 Yamaha Mountain Max LE 165 models are no exception. They’re light, powerful and packed with features designed to take you down the slopes with gusto and flair. (Available only during the “Spring Surge” program)
2022 Yamaha Mountain Max LE 165 – HIGHLIGHTS
- The second generation 794cc 2-stroke twin-cylinder engine features a battery-free fuel injection system controlled by an ECM and an electronic oil injection system. Auxiliary boost valves move in three stages to control the flow of fuel into the calibrated exhaust pipe with a stainless steel exhaust manifold and muffler. The temperature sensor in the exhaust pipe monitors the system. Spark ignition is via a digital CDI system with detonation sensor; cooling is via a liquid heat exchanger. The electric starter is standard.
- The lowered and rounded track housing provides a low gradual approach angle – 9.4°. The lightweight track housing features narrow, tapered steps for easy maneuvering in deep snow and provides ample clearance for the 8-tooth, extraverted sprockets of its Power Claw track.
- The rear suspension, with its 15 inches (38 cm) of travel, utilizes a lightweight single-spar frame to provide exceptional handling in deep snow and on steep slopes. This advanced frame design features a single pivot point in the middle of the spar, which is installed along the centerline of the track. The resulting flexibility of the track and balance point translates into very precise handling. It’s never been easier to make your way through the snow – both on level trails and on steep inclines. Because this single-spar design offloads 4.5 kilos and doesn’t accumulate snow like traditional double-spar suspensions, the snowmobile feels lighter in real-world conditions.
- One of the switches on the left side panel allows you to change the heat intensity of the heated grips and thumb warmer “on the fly”. You can also select the information on the dashboard with a convenient rocker switch, and select the push-button for reverse gear, which is also integrated into the left-hand grip. On the right, the bald handle includes the ergonomic throttle and the self-contained emergency engine cut-off. The Hayes “Stealth” brake cylinder is combined with a composite lever and lightweight caliper to provide excellent modulation, feel and braking power.
- The single-spoke suspension features heavy-duty Fox Zero coilover amortos with QS3 on both the front and rear arms for quicker shifting between gears. In addition, the rear arm is equipped with the mountain-specific QS3L feature, which offers a locking mode specifically for steep climbs. Other advantageous features include a special sealed de-icing system, speed-sensitive damping and hard-anodized components.
2022 Yamaha Mountain Max LE 165 – PERFORMANCE
- The Fox 1.5 Zero QS3 coil spring and high pressure gas (GHP) amortos feature a docked reservoir to beautifully counteract sag and provide exceptional control. Three compression damping settings make it a snap to tailor performance to suit terrain conditions and your driving style.
- The PowerClaw single-ply track features 3-inch bars on a 3.5-inch pitch, angled forward and offset from each other to bite into deep snow. Their length provides continuous forward motion and lift – you don’t have to worry about steep hills!
- Power boost valves adjust the exhaust port opening based on engine speed to maximize peak torque and optimize fuel efficiency throughout the powerband.
- Electronic fuel injection delivers fuel very efficiently into the cylinder based on engine speed, maximizing torque and throttle response. Computer-controlled fuel injection provides reliable cold-weather starting, maximizes range and delivers low exhaust emissions.
- The TVC’s primary and secondary pulleys provide smooth, precise shifts and run efficiently in cold weather, maximizing drive belt performance and durability.
2022 Yamaha Mountain Max LE 165 – MANIABILITY
- In deep snow, the streamlined, ultra-compact SRV-M front suspension reduces annoying drag from spindles and suspension components. Narrow ski spacing allows for extreme maneuvers and bold lean angles so daredevil snowmobilers can push their limits on cross-country and powder turns. Lightweight, forged-aluminum stub axles combine with generously curved upper and lower delta arms to provide a wide casting angle that’s ideal for sidecountry riding and easy steering. Narrow ski spacing and the absence of sway bars greatly enhance the snowmobile’s agility in deep snow.
- The SRV-M mountain-specific frame combines a triangulated structure with a lightweight aluminum design to create a very balanced, rider-oriented snowmobile. Its pyramid-shaped top frame strengthens the chassis without adding weight. Its perforated running boards are reinforced to withstand the rough and tumble of reckless riders.
- The long, specialized steering column is ergonomically perfect for standing up and taking off. The 4.5-inch lift flange combines with the wide, molded handlebars with curved tips for mountain riding and the integrated climbing strap to give you the leverage you need for off-road fun. The steering can be adjusted to fine-tune the steering and steering angles to keep you in your ideal riding position.
- Engineers designed the SRV chassis with mass centralization in mind. About 60 percent of the snowmobile’s mass is centered in the main triangle. The result is a balanced, yet obedient snowmobile that can be enjoyed in a wide range of conditions.
- Lightweight Yamaha mountain skis deliver everything you need to waltz through deep snow. Their large footprint helps increase lift and actively lifts the front section of the snowmobile through deep powder. Traction bars on the top of the skis help keep your feet firmly planted when the ride gets really rough. Their wide, deep keel reduces the effort required at the handlebars, but it also delivers predictable handling that inspires confidence-both in hard-packed snow and in freshly fallen snow.
2022 Yamaha Mountain Max LE 165 – CONFORT
- The 39.4-liter fuel tank allows you to fool around for a long time before asking to go to the gas pump again.
- The lightweight, tall, narrow M-TX mountain seat is shorter and more tapered in front than our standard trail seat. It makes it easier for the rider to move sideways and improves the ergonomics of stand-up riding.
- The myriad of easy-to-read digital gauges display a variety of critical information. Speed, fuel level, distance traveled, tachometer data, altitude, temperatures and more are just a glance away. Switching functions is a breeze using the left-hand grip controls.
- Restarting the engine and shifting into reverse is as easy as pushing a button. The back-up warning buzzer sounds once you’re in reverse, and the buzzer continues to sound until you push the button again to turn off the ignition and shift into forward gear. How cool is that? It’s a simple, lightweight and effective way to get you out of a tight spot.
- A handy bag under the seat provides additional storage space. Semi-rigid, easy to access and water resistant, it keeps your essentials safe and dry. Easy-to-release quarter-turn fasteners make it easy to remove.
